Biggest Black Hole Discovered

Scientists have discovered the biggest black hole on record in the nearby galaxy M87 – one of the first galaxies believed to harbor a black hole.

Using a new measuring system, researchers have found the black hole is two to three times heftier than previously thought – and 6.4 billion times bigger than the mass of the sun.

The new measure suggests that other black holes in nearby large galaxies could also be much heftier than current measurements suggest, and it could help astronomers solve a longstanding puzzle about galaxy development.

Researchers say the finding implies how black holes relate to galaxies, and as a resut, impact theories on how galaxies are formed.
