Two elderly women were sentenced to life in prison without parole Tuesday for murdering two indigent men to collect insurance policies taken out on their lives.

Helen Golay of <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />Santa Monica, 77, and Olga Rutterschmidt, 75, of Hollywood, were convicted in April of murder and conspiracy for taking out insurance polices on two homeless men, then arranging to have them killed in hit-and-run accidents in Los Angeles alleys.

Jurors found that the murders were committed for financial gain and that there were multiple murders, making them eligible for life terms without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
