Canada Border [Police State LIVE!]

Classic demonstration of how a little power dehumanizes petty govt officials. That being said, this isn't a case of uniquely American officiousness much less a rights violation. I have passed through border controls of various kinds what must be several hundred times all over the world. I learned long ago that if you are going to give lip to anyone it shouldn't be customs or immigration officers of a country not your own - it's just stupid, like making bomb jokes in airports. The two people in the car sound old enough to understand that going from 0 to 60 on the anger scale in mid-sentence just isn't done when you are entering another country. That sense of entitlement and superiority oozing through every expression of outrage is positively guaranteed to elicit a negative reaction in any country in the world.You have a right not to be asked such detailed questions without cause once in the country. At borders, customs and immigration people have every right to ask them and demand answers. Responding petulantly, as this couple did, is exactly wrong; doing so so quickly and I must say arrogantly makes the situation much worse. Canadians should be the last to complain, as their border people (at some entry points) are insufferable. Try getting pissed off at Canadian border control after explaining for the third time that no, you don't have any weapons in your car; the response will be as bad or worse. There is only one safe way through that gauntlet and that is to respond courteously to every question. I shudder to think what the reaction at French border control would be, much less any country in the Middle East or East Asia. But this couple wouldn't try any of this elsewhere, would they? I disagree with the reaction, but if their fate were the standard sentence for flamboyant stupidity I'd think justice well served. Remember when the stereotype of the ugly American was defined by just this attitude at other countries' border controls?
