Drug rings have occasionally sold cocaine mixed with candy powder, but investigators said the new product was significantly more sophisticated and lucrative. Cocaine cut with an added flavoring is less potent, but the 1½ pounds seized last month were a full-strength powder into which strawberry, coconut, lemon and cinnamon flavoring had been chemically synthesized.

The flavored cocaine would command $1,100 to $1,400 an ounce on the street, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said after DEA agents and state investigators seized the flavored drugs at two homes in Modesto, Calif. Regular powder cocaine, by comparison, fetches $600 to $700 an ounce, the agency said.

ScienceDave, I like this story. It's good stuff. A good story that doesnt surprise me Dave, they flavour marijuana with methamphetamines and Crack here in British Columbia to give the unsuspecting occasional smoker a an addicitive high, So why not flavoured cocaine to the teen set, Hell why they are at it, why not "Carbonated Pepsi and crushed Ice Heroin" so junkies can feel the bubbly rush when it courses through your veins for that ultimate Brain Freeze.

Hey Barry I normally find your posts well researched and informative but I gotta question you on this one. What evidence do you have of pot being "flavoured" with cocaine or meth? I have never heard of that happening. I also remember some reports that ecstasy was being laced with heroine. I chatted with a RCMP friend who has spent time busting drug dealers as well as an emergency ward nurse (ICU) and a former and current pot dealer and all told me they have never seen such adulterations nor have they even ever heard of them. If you have a report of such a finding I would be interested in seeing it. Otherwise I will put it down to urban myths intended to scare people away from drugs.

Well EastVanRay, your friends are misinformed, it does happen, I have sampled a number of marijuana grow ops which had meth precursors, this is one of the aspects of my profession for both RCMP and area Police forces, Health Units and Municipalities. As for Proof, well besides third party lab analysis, I have reported it here on Now Public, as well as in publications, Police Audits for area police forces and municipalities on this.

BTW for your info, I am the authour for most of the Controlled Substance Property By-Laws for both Illegal Drug Manufacturing of all Illegal drugs as well as expert testimony in the lower mainland.

This is what I do, as well as a speaker for Law Enforcement Seminars, including the upcoming World Police one this Summer 2008, both in the US and Canada, and will be at the Surrey Conference this summer as well on Policing and Public Safety.

I never write Opinion pieces on any story, unless I have personal past or present involvement and well thought out knowledge on the subject. Hence why my forte is more on Law, Crime, Punishment, Human Health as it relates to the Environment. Unfortunately because of the above it puts me directly into the realm of immigration and downside of Multicultural and Diversity at times. Though not opposed to Multicultural and Diversity (The Good Side) most criminals take full adavantage of it, such as prison prepared Holy meals just for them, as far as I am concerned, if you transgressed your holy book time and time again, you obviously are taking advantage of our Multicultural and Diversity based Laws and therefore should be treated like the rest of the prison population. But Politicans do not see this, so this is when I take Politicans to task for pandering to cultural mores.

Hence why I stay away from more in depth Political Stories unless it is clear to anyone that the Politician is flawed.

Any other story I report an Opinion on, is well researched, trust me, as there are many (Editors and Wranglers) here with way more expertise than I on many subjets, and if my story was ever flawed, I would be immediately taken to task by my peers.
