Cat Gets GED Diploma Online
Oreo, a cat, got a GED diploma (General Educational Development) online from Jefferson High School Online. Her owner, Kelvin Collins, took the test for her but realized it was much easier than he thought.
"I realized if you miss a question, it's going to come back and give you a hint that tells you exactly what the answer is," he said.
With the extra help, Oreo got mostly A's. Some of her credits came from a life experience essay where Collins wrote about Oreo's adoption into the family.
"She always lands on her feet and that's one of the things that I put."
Janet Kelly from Middle Georgia Technical College says that real GED programs don't give clues in tests and do not count life experience for credits.
Collins got his cat the GED diploma online as a test to expose diploma mills. Collins works for the Better Business Bureau. Jefferson High School Online is actually based in St. Kitts in Caribbean. The online school is not connected to any real Jefferson High Schools.
The diploma cost $200, but it did not help Oreo find a job.
