Chavez begins marathon TV show
Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez, has embarked on a marathon media broadcast in celebration of this 10th anniversary of "Hello President". The quirky president has used the government media outlets over the years to broadcast his views to explain his political stance and announce important events and changes in the government.
Hugo Chavez has tweaked the beard of Uncle Sam numerous times in the past ten years by promoting socialism and nationalizing various industries. In spite of this, Venezuela continues a close relationship with the US who is their biggest customer for petroleum products.
We're starting in the sunshine. We'll probably have a programme in the rain," he said as he launched the live programme at an electrical plant in western Venezuela.
"We might have an episode at midnight, in the early morning. Keep an eye out.''
The programme is transmitted from a different corner of the country each week, normally on Sundays, and typically lasts four to six hours. On Thursday he began the programme giving sexual education tips to a group of teenagers and talked about problems with his weight, which has ballooned since he took office.
Chavez has used his television appearances to preaching his own brand of
socialism, announce nationalisations, and berate opponents. He once shocked his defence minister on the show by ordering tanks to the border with Colombia.

Mr Hugo Chavez has spent hours and hours (if not years) to speak to
try to keep this route to connect with those who still feel sympathy for the Showman he really is, in all these long "perolatas" he has spent enormous resources that would serve to solve the more serious problems afflicting the Venezuelan people, but his vanity is greater than the needs of the betrayed people which placed their trust on his shoulders.
During the ten years of his rule, and after handling more than 900,000 million dollars (more than double what it entering Venezuela in 40 years that preceded it), Mr. Chavez has not explained
Venezuelans where that money went to stop, why the state of country's infrastructure is in total neglect.
Now he should explain Venezuelans, why we turn to be the first
most violent of all the Americas, where they murdered during the year 2008 over 14,800 people and has not devoted any time to explain the many plans that Venezuela should have been implemented to tackle this scourge.
Chavez must explain why he bypass the popular will, violates fundamental human rights (like private property rights, free press among others), the Venezuela Constitution, because it repeal his illegal atempts to divide the country as a totalitarian dictatorship.
