Chinese Man Pierced 2008 Times for Upcoming Olympics

I don't know if I am impressed by his pride and excitement or just think he is plain crazy, but "Wei" coloured his head, face, cheset, and arms with 2008 needles. Now, I have suffered through my share of accupuncturing. I managed to gather up all my courage just to have 4-6needles in me (on my back), so I cannot imagine this man putting in 2008 needles on his face and head! Well, I guess for consolation, he gets to have his name in the Guinness Book of Records. And we all know the crazy things people would do to have their name in the record books.

China has been buzzing with anticipation for the 2008 Olympics this summer. From putting up sexy Olympic street lights to naming 3,500 babies after the event, you can definitely feel the pride and excitement for the coming games.

Wei, a 60 year-old Chinese acupuncturist from Guangxi province, showed his patriotism for the upcoming Olympics by piercing his head, face, chest, and arms with 2008 decorative needles in five different colors.

There are a lot of crazys out there, but Wei is the extreme crazy. I think it is hilarious that he paraded through town with 800 needles in his forehead and then decided to make things more fun or interesting by putting on skates and skating around the streets.

The event broke his previous Guinness Record of 1790 needles set in 2004. Wei also hopes to share more about the history of acupuncture to the world.

Initially inspired after reading about a Canadian who had set a record for inserting 420 needles in his arm, Wei felt that it was “not much compared to our centuries-old acupuncture,” and began experimenting with piercing his own body with needles.

On January 13, 2007, Wei had also paraded through town with 800 needles in his forehead and even put on skates and skated around the streets to show he was not in pain and alright.

I say, enough with the crazy stunts (naming 3,500 babies after the event), and lets just get the games started!

Self portraits of an acupuncture session, which I use to relieve stress and for general well being. I find it soothing and I immediately feel the results. Now, I don't know how 2008 needles would feel, I'm not willing to go that far! But hey, to each his own.
