Christian Walliser, a 28-year-old tiger trainer, was attacked by three Bengal tigers during one of his performances at Pagel's Dinner Circus, an event taking place at the Hagenbeck Dressage Hall. Walliser is in critical condition after three of the five tigers in the arena pounced on him after he momentarily stumbled. The Bengal tigers pinned him to the ground in this momentary loss of control and attacked his upper body and head.

The attack took place in the Hagenbeck Dressage Hall where a special dinner event was taking place and customers had payed a substantial €132 per ticket. Audience members at the Pagel's Dinner Circus event watched in confusion, many of them believing that the tigers were playing with Walliser at first. Many audience members momentarily thought that it was all part of the routine, but the show quickly turned deadly as it became evident that Walliser was being attacked.

His head, upper body and hands were bitten as he tried to shield his face from the attack.

'They were treating him like a rag doll,' said Ismet Mueller, Walliser's friend in the audience.  'It was horrible.'

Walliser's hand was shredded almost immediately in the attack. He sustained serious upper body injuries before fellow employees could get into the arena to help him. Hoses and fire extinguishers were used to repel the tigers and remove Walliser from the scene.

Walliser was airlifted from the premises to a hospital where he underwent extensive surgery. The full extent of Walliser's injuries is still being determined, but thus far doctors have had to amputate his left hand. He remains in critical condition with severe chest and head injuries. Medical personnel remained on-site at the Hagenbeck Dressage Hall to treat 20 of the patrons for shock.

Prayers are going out to Christian and his loved ones.  Remembering the horror of the Siegfried and Roy tiger attack and the horrific injuries Roy suffered, one can only pray that Christian will recover as best he can like Roy did. Best wishes and good thoughts coming from Las Vegas to you Christian!
