Child Marriage in India

North Indian desert state of Rajasthan was in news sometime back for World's oldest father, now the fatherhood of this 15 year old boy will change the focus from oldest to youngest father. Rajasthan has one of highest child marriages in India.

There is something about his life that Khiya Ram Jat would rather not discuss. He's 15, a Class VIII student at a government school in a village in Barmer. And he is a father.

If another Barmer resident, Bhirma Ram Jat, became probably the oldest man to become a father at age 88 last year, then Khiya Ram could possibly be among the youngest to sire children. Camel milk may have done the trick for Bhirma Ram, but in Khiya Ram's case it was his early marriage.
