Ivan and Birke with the invisibility cloak

The dream of becoming invisible by throwing a cloak of invisibility over oneself just like Harry Potter has come one step closer as scientists in the US air force announce that they have invented a cloak that warps microwaves.

They now hope to apply similar technology to visible light which would mean that an individual wearing such a cloak would for all intents and purposes become invisible.

Harry Potter got up to sorts of mischief when he wore his, while the Klingons used theirs to sneak up on the Starship Enterprise.

One day, you too could be the proud owner of a cloak of invisibility, experiments suggest.

Researchers funded by the US air force have created a cloak capable of warping the path of microwaves.

If the same 'wizard' result could be achieved with visible light, the shrouded object would disappear from sight.

Should the perfect design ever come to light, people could vanish and ugly buildings and industrial sites could be erased from view.

However, the military are likely to be the first benefactors of the expensive technology, cloaking ships, planes and tanks to make them invisible to the microwaves emitted by radar.

So, did they reverse engineer the cloak from the Klingons or get the formula from the Romulans?
