Coffin elevator crushes funeral home workerASSOCIATED PRESS
LINDEN, N.J. - A tragic elevator accident has claimed the life of a Linden funeral home employee.
Police said a fellow worker at the Krowicki-McCracken Funeral Home found the body of 69-year-old Giorgio Ferrara at about 10 a.m. today.
They said the Elizabeth man, who had worked there for nearly 40 years, was crushed by an elevator used to lift coffins from the basement. However, it was not immediately clear what caused the accident, which remains under investigation.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also was notified.
Five other workers were in the funeral home at the time. A person who answered the phone there declined comment, referring all questions to police.
