Cop Quits Over Traffic Stop of Elderly Speeder

A Texas Police officer Grant Jones went over the line in trying to apprehend a vehicle speeding in Diboll, Texas.  The Vehicle in question was being driven by Tracy Lott who was carrying  a passenger named James Lodge an elderly man on a oxygen tank who was also in urgent need of  medical attention .  The two were caught speeding by Officer Grant Jones on his police cruiser dash cam on the highway attempting to arrive at  the nearest hospital for medical attention.    What was also captured was the smashing of the driver's side window the drawing of his service pistol  and Officer Jones' abuse of power directed towards the two men.  The arresting techniques used by Officer Jones were a clear misuse of power , he has since resigned over this incident.  Tracey Lott the driver of the vehicle is still shaken by this unfortunate ordeal , he was held for over an hour and a half  and taken away in handcuffs.  Police Chief Kent Havard explains of the difficulties officers face , this incident is one that Officer Jones should have assessed with more common sense he then may had handled this differently.

It is said to always do what a cop tells you so as to avoid trouble. I disagree. It is my right and I will exercise it, to engage in acts of civil disobedience. When any authority has overstepped its bounds it should be removed.

There is much less of a need for police officers than people are lead to believe. The world would not erupt into chaos. After all we existed before abstract ideas such as established law and perpetuated order.

critter171, you sound like a fascist. You're type excuses anything and everything cops do, they get whitewashed all the time. This stuff happens all the time, like the Dallas cop that nearly killed Ryan Moats and his wife because they were rushing to her mother's bedside before she died. He and the woman's grandfather didn't get to say goodbye because of that fascist power-monger cop. And here's another. Cops routinely abuse authority and hurt or kill people and get away with it. Only when it gets publicized do they ever have any accountability. And that's all too rare. If this cop is that much of a coward and a bully, he was in the wrong job to begin with. Cops used to be called peace officers, now it's "law enforcement personnel", sounds like the Gestapo or KGB. Grace H was absolutely right, cops forget, if they ever get it through their heads in the first place, that they work for us, being a "public servant" means you serve the public, we're not their subjects to be beaten, bullied and disrespected like this cretin did. The problem is, Texas jurisdictions don't provide information to other jurisdictions, so this scumbag will likely wind up being a cop somewhere else in Texas and keep acting the same way. He should have been fired instead of being allowed to resign, and I hope these two men sue this guy into the poorhouse.

Or the cops in Bellaire who shot this kid in his own yard because he was getting pissed at how they were roughing his mom. They accused him of stealing a car because they mis-ran the plates. Then shot him in the back as he began to stand. He was in the minor leagues. His father was a former pro. They essentially ruined his life as the bullet cannot be removed and he can't play it would kill him. The cops walked. Where is the justice?

I wonder why these people did not go to the emergecy in Livingston? They live 10 minutes from that hospital, but instead they drove nearly fifty miles to Lufkin. They pased up a hospital.WHY? If he was in that much distress why not go to Livingston hospital? That Offic er was doing his job. Why? Drive halfway across Texas? That man couldn't have been in that much distress or he would have gone to the hospital near his house. Maybe they are trying tosue anyone to get money. I know I would have gone to a close by hopital ,I would have stopped the car and rolled thickdown the window when the cop asked me too. Not lock the door of the car and refuse to talk, also I would have not started looking under the seat like he was looking for a gun. BUT that's me
