This is Dash (the photo is cut off; go to my Flickr photostream to see him full on because he is BEAUTIFUL!). He is at the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos, New Mexico, where we, along with so many other areas, have a glut of Pit Bulls and PB mixes. His personality is as noble as the picture.
If you go to my photostream, you will also see a photo of Elsa, one I have recently adopted. You will not see a more beautiful specimen of the breed. It appears she was a puppy-mill dog. She's quite young, maybe three, but you can tell she has had MANY litters. She is bulit like a cross between a bull and a cinder block. She has the most gorgeous eyes, and she is the gentlest dog I have known. She is automatic on commands. Someone has lost a most excellent dog, but it's for the best anyway as it is obvious she has been kicked in the rear a lot because she is extra sensitive there. Oh well, it's wine and roses for the dog now!
Please give to your local shelters! If you can't give, consider volunterring to walk a dog there. Most shelters stink and are loud; the people who work there often do it ONLY as a labor of love. They many times have to make the decision of who lives and who dies, which is not easy for them since they LOVE the animals. The unreasonable fear of the Pit Bull makes them less of a favorite for adopting, and often they have to be "let go" even though they are a beautiful and gentle as Dash, in the photo, or my dear Elsa. Why would anyone throw away a perfectly good dog?
