David Dopp Crashes Lamborghini Murcielago Just after Winning It
David Dopp Wins Lamborghini, Crashes Lamborghini in Same Day
David Dopp, a truck driver for Frito-Lay, won a lime-green Lamborghini Murcielago in a contest, only to crash it a few hours later. Ouch.
Below you can see video footage of David Dopp meeting his brand-new Lambo for the very first time. Less than six hours later, he was driving in Santaquin, Utah when he lost control of the $300,000 sports car and drove it into a field.
Aside from cosmetic and fender damage, the oil pan was punctured. The Murcielago is bound for Las Vegas for repairs; no word on how much that will cost.
According to police, the car spun out of control and went over a curb before coming to rest in a field 75 feet off of the road embankment. Officer Allen Hansen from the Santaquin Police Department was at the scene. He told inSantaquin News that alcohol was not a factor and that the accident was likely “speed-related.”
Dopp had been giving his friends rides in the Lamborghini (which is a stand-up thing to do, really), and had been warned by the police about speeding already.
David Dopp said that he was doing up to 50mph in a 35 zone, which is fairly conservative, really, when you're talking about a 631hp V12 supercar that tops out at 205. Dopp won the car in a contest called "Joe Schmo to Lambo", put on by teamgive.org and Maverik.
While Dopp is a professional driver, there's a pretty big difference between a delivery truck and an ultra-high-end sports car. Come on, if you were handed the keys to a shiny green Lamborghini Murcielago, you'd hit the corners pretty hard, too.
(According to Jalopnik, selling or totaling the car could have been part of David Dopp's overall plan: insuring that beast would cost a fortune. However, the damage isn't anywhere near severe enough to qualify as totaling the car.)
