Love or Poesy rings are gold bands engraved with a brief poem or sentiment. These inscribed rings are found as early as classical times but reached their greatest popularity in the 16th & 17th century when they were used as a wedding ring, a lover's token or as a means of showing regard. The design of the ring is interlaced with engraved design etching. Engraved on the inside of the ring is in French - "de m'amour soiez sure" -meaning "of my love be sure". This ring is a museum authorized reproduction. A silver posey ring, as pictured above, was worn until the wedding and replaced with the same ring, only in gold.
