Vijfentwintig* Gulden De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB)
Twenty-five Guilder The Netherlands [Central] Bank

* Vijfen sounds like Fiffen (related to 5?) and twintig sounds more like twenty in English. Wonder if in Dutch the no. 25 is constructed as 5 & 20 ??

My brother, an engineer-scientist by trade, went to Rotterdam's Erasmus University for two years to do research. When he returned for a visit in 2002, he accidentally brought back some Dutch Guilder banknotes and was about to bring them back to the Nederland to exchange for the new Euro notes. I jumped on him and bought the Guilders from him. The 25 Gulden notes are from a 1989 design and in poor conditions, but I'm glad to have any Guilder at all.

With the red abstract design, I thought the note looks more like the Soviet ruble!
