The latest species in captivity was unveiled in the shape of five performers living in an enclosure originally designed for penguins.

The show - Enclosure 44, Humans - was unveiled to quizzical crowds as dancers used movement to communicate and interact with each other.

The latest arrivals at the zoo come from the Janis Claxon Dance School and will spend the next ten days putting on a human performance without verbal communication.

The dancers, Skye, Vikky, Libby, Kirki and the "alpha female" Janis will spend the next ten days at the zoo and danced around in pyjamas yesterday as zookeepers fed them a breakfast of chopped fruit.

Ms Claxon, who is originally from Brisbane, said she came up with the idea after observing the behaviour of different species in captivity.
