28 Injured in Nit de l'Alba Festival Fireworks Accident
The Nit de l'Alba was marred by a fireworks mishap on August 12, 2012. A cache of fireworks was set to launch from inside the church bell tower in Elche, Spain at around midnight. However, a firecracker launched from the street ignited the bell tower fireworks before they were prepared for launch.

Three fireworks operators were hospitalized after the Nit de l'Alba accident, and 25 others suffered minor injuries.
Elche Mayor Mercedes Alonso remarked, "La pólvora ha jugado una mala pasada. Lamentamos lo que ha ocurrido y asumimos nuestra responsabilidad (Gunpowder played a dirty trick. We regret what happened and we assume responsibility."
