Elephant Appreciation Day: Wow Your Friends With This Trivia
It's Elephant Appreciation Day today, September 22nd, and although this may seem like an odd day to celebrate, elephants are much loved creatures so if they want to have their own day, we at NowPublic think that they deserve it.
Elephant Appreciation Day was created in 1996 by Wayne Hepburn at Mission Media Inc, who received a gift from his daughter of a paperweight of elephants and from that he decided that they needed their own day to be fully appreciated by all.
How could you celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day?
Well, if you are at work you could spread the word around your co-workers, or take a long lunch in honour of the animals (we're sure your boss will understand).
If you have children at home, now might be a good time to teach them about these huge animals that come from Africa and India or even take them to the zoo to see one in the flesh.

Or wow your friends with your amazing Elephant trivia:
They cannot jump (but we're not sure if anyone thought they actually could).
The only animal taller than an Elephant is a Giraffe
Elephants can carry up to 11.5 liters of water in their trunk to be sprayed in to their mouth or on their back for a bath.
The only Elephants that live in herds are grown up females and their babies.
They poop 80 pounds in one day
The term Jumbo, that is so often associated with elephants, comes from the famous Elephant Jumbo, who was sold in to P.T. Barnum's circus and made to perform for audiences.

The zoo in Philadelphia sent its elephants elsewhere. They were too expensive to maintain.
