Father Tim Jones: Shoplift Better than Prostitution or Burglary
Father Tim Jones urged people to shoplift from large national chains in difficult times for vulnerable people. Father Tim Jones believes it is the best option comparing to prostitution, mugging, or burglary. While father Jones stressed that his words should not be interpreted as a call to shoplift, his advice inevitably sparked controversy.
Mr Jones said society had failed many needy people and said it was far better that they shoplift than turn to more degrading or violent options like prostitution, mugging or burglary.
He added: "Let my words not be misrepresented as a simplistic call for people to shoplift.
Father Jones cited the example of an ex-prisoner who had been forced to live on less than £100, including a crisis loan, over six weeks after his release from jail.
He continued: 'My advice does not contradict the Bible's eighth commandment because God's love for the poor and despised outweighs the property rights of the rich.
"Turning or returning to crime will only make matters worse, that is a guarantee. We recognise some people find themselves in difficult circumstances but support is readily available and must be sought," said a spokesperson.
Police advised people in need to turn to agencies and charities instead.

Too funny. He waxes righteous, while ignoring the greater commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.
Why isn't he feeding them?

Father Tim Jones has a predecessor in Cardinal Frings (Cologne 1947). He preached that if hungry city dwellers dug out potatoes or carrots out of a farmer's field, they need not consider that a serious sin. Thus in the Rhineland a new verb was coined: "frings" meaning to steal without serious injury to the offended. The irony of Father Jones' remarks in our complacent society should escape no one.
