A garden gnome from Gloucestershire, England spent seven months travelling the world to South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Laos. He was "snatched" from the garden of Eve Stuart-Kelso, but returned with slight damage.

A snatched garden gnome has been returned to his owner with a photo album picturing him in 12 countries he had visited with his kidnapper.

Eve Stuart-Kelso said she was stunned to see her leprechaun Murphy standing outside her Gloucester home seven months after he disappeared.

The best part is the typical British Police's reaction:

A Gloucestershire police spokeswoman said: "Any theft of a person's property, even if it is carried out as a joke, will be treated as a crime by police.

The gnome in my photo comes from the book Gnome and Garden: A Gnovelty Kit which I purchased in 2005. Two years later I randomly met the author's sister, who of course had her own gnome. I'm happy to report that the author's sister and I are now engaged and the two gnomes lives together happily on our bookshelf.

Hey, my garden gnome has been busy helping me garden this summer (he was, after all, manufactured holding a trowel!)  and when I told him about the abduction of a fellow gnome and he was incensed.   My gnome is quite adept at pulling weeds and clover from my lawn AND chasing the rabbits out of my flower beds. I keep him quite happy by feeding him Lucky Charms and letting him have weekends off.

This little guy appeared in Wahpeton, North Dakota, just hours after a (possible) tornado hit town. Since I'm from Oregon, I can't be sure about weather in the northern prairie. It's possible he fell out of the sky like Dorothy and Toto. I don't really know...

This happy little guy is a new addition to the garden this summer.  He is one of the "cheerful" gnomes that helps to keep the yard critters under control and keeps me smiling!  :)

the phillips gnome is not a traveler... he is too busy for such worldly things and must keep an eye out for pesky weeds and unwanted nibblers of the bounty.

I had just broken up with the love of my life after a 4 year transatlantic haul, and I was trolling around the South Lake shopping district in nearby Pasadena, California, snapping shots to get my mind off the heartbreak.
I popped into one of my favorite stores, Smith-Hawken to have a look around for gardening tools, boots, and such to cheer myself up.
And there he was, in the Garden Gnome section.
I gravitated towards him, took this pic, and took him home. -

Text : Pink Floyd, The Gnome.

"I want to tell you a story
About a little man
If I can.
A gnome named grimble grumble.
And little gnomes stay in their homes.
Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine.
He wore a scarlet tunic,
A blue green hood,
It looked quite good.
He had a big adventure
Amidst the grass
Fresh air at last.
Wining, dining, biding his time.
And then one day - hooray!
Another way for gnomes to say
Hoooooooooray.
Look at the sky, look at the river
Isnt it good?
Look at the sky, look at the river
Isnt it good?
Winding, finding places to go.
And then one day - hooray!
Another way for gnomes to say
Hoooooooooray.
Hooooooooooooooray."

These two gnomes live at my woodland's edge. One is a very hard worker keeping up his little gnome/fairy house that my daughter made while the other one is lazy and doesn't do much work except for the occasional tick chasing. He doesn't like big animals, therefore my garden is getting eaten. Hmmmmm......... He always sits in contimplation, thinking about where he would travel to if he could just find his way into a suitcase!

Well, our garden gnome told me that gnomes often discuss the dangers of abduction. My gnome practices judo and evasion techniques, so that he could fight off any possible attackers. My gnome also likes to lay low at night after he does the weeding and he usually crawls deep into our salvia plants which are thick and can disguise him quite well.

He is so glad that Eve's gnome has returned home safely.

I thought my Garden Pig was stolen, however, with shovel in hand and the look of guilt on his face I am inclined to believe that I'll find my pig burried under those impatients......can't trust those Garden Gnomes. He's being held without bail.....

Hey Everyone! I'm doing an extensive research project on collecting garden gnomes and you all seen very familiar with them. If anyone is a collector or has any information/stories about gnome collecting or gnomes in general, I would love to hear about it so that I can feature it in my paper. In addition, I'm looking for a place where gnomes are sold and need recommendations. Thank you!!

Hey there EmG! I have a website where I sell Kimmel gnomes.  The artist lives in a remote area of S Dakota and is one of the last (if not THE last) potter still making gnomes in the traditional European style of stoneware pottery. Some of her gnomes are her own designs, but most of them are antique reproductions or designs based on the art of Rien Poortvliet...possibly the most famous Dutch fantasy artist ever.  I enjoy representing this artist as she has really maintained the integrity of the classic garden gnome.  You'd be surprised by how many orders I get from Germany, of all places.  The e-mails usually start out...I can't believe it is impossible to find a "real" garden gnome in Germany!  Everything you see in garden shops nowdays is usually resin, plaster or plastic and is rather garish.  Kimmel's gnomes have the colors hard fired right into the stoneware pottery, so they retain their color in all climates and are extremely durable. You can also order them in a natural stone finish.   Please visit my website  www.GnomeGarden.net  to see my gnome selection. I'd be happy to talk with you further about gnome collecting and display.  It is mostly a hobby for me and I really have a lot of fun with it.  "Gnome People" are generally a pretty nice group.
