February 2 is Groundhog Day 2010. This coincides with the Lost Season 6 premiere, but Punxsutawney Phil should have let us know whether or not we're in for more winter. Vancouver kind of needs it, what with the record warm weather ahead of the 2010 Olympics and all. Who is Punxsutawney Phil?

Punxsutawney Phil is the only "real" weather-forecasting groundhog, at least that's according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, which has obeserved Groundhog Day since 1886. You may be wondering how Punxsutawney Phil has lived this long. The answer is... uh... magic. Groundhog Day's official groundhog has kept up with the times, and can text you his predictions if you text him first on 247365 in the US. Oh, and he's on Facebook and Twitter. If you follow a groundhog (or any other woodland creature) on Twitter, well then... whatever. Follow a groundhog if you want.

On February 2, Phil comes out of his burrow on Gobbler's Knob - in front of thousands of followers from all over the world - to predict the weather for the rest of winter.
If Phil sees his shadow, then we're in for six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, then we get an early spring. I wonder if the Southern Hemisphere realizes that their summer depends on a centenarian groundhog.
You can also follow him on Facebook and Twitter, but that's taking it a bit far.

Actually, @visitPA isn't Punxsutawney Phil actually tweeting. It's just a tourism feed.. Check out @groundhogphil for actual tweets from the groundhog.

I like Ellen's groundhog since I ride motorcycles and I've had enough winter!!I wrote a blog about Phil today too at dozenroses13.wordpress.com/2010/02/02/groundhog-day-2010/I was reading someone else's blog today and they went to Gobbler's Knob and mentioned how she thought it was weird that there weren't any women on the Groundhog Council.  That hadn't occurred to me, but now that she mentions it, it is kind of strange don't you think??
