What better way to end the work week than polishing off a big bowl of ice cream.  Today is officially National Hot Fudge Sundae Day, celebrated by Americans across the country. I hope that everyone gets a chance to indulge!

When you celebrate Independence Day, be thankful for this great country that welcomes people from every land on earth—who come bringing their culinary heritage. That’s what has made the United States the most exciting place to learn world cuisines. Of course, July celebrates those holidays that are as American as apple pie (except apple pie is a European invention, and it’s Apple Turnover Day that gets celebrated this month).

Many of the Ice Cream holidays seem to be in July: National Ice Cream Day, National Ice Cream Soda Day, National Vanilla Ice Cream Day, even Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day. Today it's Hot Fudge Sundae Day.

Of course, there are many different definitions of a hot fudge sundae, and many ways to make them, depending on what you like.

For those of you who can't make it out to your local ice cream shack, here's a recipe for you to create your own sundae: http://www.ehow.com/how_2012_make-hot-fudge.html

Sundae culture has spread from the US all over the world! This is from the Denny's in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan, and it's referred to as a "parfait" there. From my point of view, though, it's definitely a sundae--and definitely delicious! This single dessert included ice cream, brownies, puff pastry, chocolate pieces, chocolate cereal, chocolate sauce, and I don't know what else. Never let anyone tell you that Japanese people don't like sweet things!

We had just arrived in Hawaii and decided to get some lunch at a local diner. The meal included dessert, so I thought what better time for my daughter to get her first hot fudge sundae. It was a big hit.

Went out for a lovely hot fudge sunday. Not much else to say really, other than it tasted pretty darn good. ;)

I moved to England about 5-1/2 years ago and, I must admit, that one of the things that I miss most about the States is the quality of sundaes that are available.  I've yet to find a true hot fudge sundae in England, and nothing can even come close.  For one thing, they tend to use chocolate sauce, rather than hot fudge and you can't even begin to say that one is like the other.

One of the first things I do when I visit my family in the States, is to go to the nearest Friendly's or similar ice cream shoppe and indulge in a very large, very decadent sundae.  (At Friendly's it tends to be their Reeses Pieces Sundae, with Forbidden Chocolate Ice Cream)  Did I mention my penchant for chocolate???

This is a great sundae I had few years ago, still can't forget its great taste, so I posted it online and let it be there. Nice food, especially lovely sweets make me happy, so I wanna see more happy face by sharing the photo. ^^

This was taken at The HardRock Cafe in Osaka, Japan when I was over there wrestling. Even overseas I was able to enjoy an American favorite.

A trip to San Francisco isn't complete without a sundae at the Ghirardelli chocolate factory.

We got Dylan his own hot fudge sundae at Chilil's. He got quite a bit of it in his mouth--but as you can see, he also got some of it elsewhere! This photo is supposedly hanging on the wall in the Chili's it was taken at in south Texas.

Make it a vegan ice cream sundae - animals and the environment - not to mention your body - will thank you. And it's just as delicious. :) Here are some photos to prove it!

My buddy, my little boy enjoying his favorite hot fudge sundae. A weekend family outing is never complete without him savouring the taste to the last piece of his sundae.

We were driving up to Cape Cod for our annual vacation. We stopped at a Friendly's for lunch where I ordered a sundae for dessert. This giant Ghirardelli chocolate sundae arrived. Note ketchup bottle next to it for size comparison.
