It's January 2nd 2010 and that means Happy Palindrome Day!

What is a Palindrome?

A palindrome is a word, phrase, or series of numbers that can be read the same way in either direction, backwards or forwards.

So for the second time in just six centuries the date today, is a palindrome.

If you write the date today in the MM-DD-YYYY format, such as this 01-02-2010 it can be read the same backwards 0102-02-01

The last time it happened was on October 1st 2001, 10-02-2001 and before that was over six hundred years ago.

“The amazing thing is, the one before that was Aug. 31, 1380 or 08-31-1380,” said Inan, a math puzzle enthusiast. “That was 620 years ago.”

The next one is scheduled for November 2, 2011, or 11-02-2011.

“Palindrome dates are notably rare. They only occur in the first few centuries of a millennium,” said Inan

The last palindrome day of this millennium will occur on September 22 2290, or 09-22-2290.
