Haribo MAOAM has been accused of having pornographic illustrations of cartoon fruits on their candy wrappers. Simon Simpkins, a father of two from West Yorkshire, was disgusted by the cartoon characters, saying "the lemon and lime are locked in what appears to be a carnal encounter." Simon Simpkins noticed the illustrations of limes, lemons, and cherries when he was buying candies for his children.

The cartoon lime character has a "particularly lurid" expression when encounters with the cartoon lemon, according to Simpkins.

'The lime, whom I assume to be the gentleman in this coupling, has a particularly lurid expression on his face.'

He said: 'I demanded to see the shop manager and, during a heated exchange, my wife became quite distressed and had to sit down in the car park.'

Haribo said the "fun" packaging was introduced 7 years ago in Germany in 2002, and "the jovial MAOAM man is very popular with fans, both young and old."
