High court to rule on gay marriage dispute

by Pasi | May 10, 2008 at 09:33 am | 360 views | 5 comments

If Lars & Lars win this case, Canada will marry Swedes homosexuals much more in the future. And finally Sweden will have to allow gay marriages.

A homosexual couple has taken the Swedish tax authority (Skatteverket) to court for registering their marriage in Canada as a partnership.
Lars Gårdfeldt and Lars Arnell, who are both priests in the Swedish church, allege discrimination.

"The tax authorities can make an exception for a marriage where one party is under-age but not for homosexuals," said Lars Gårdfeldt to Svenska Dagbladet.

I hope they just get on with it... I don't really see the big deal with gay marriage: if two loving grown-ups want to formalize their partnership, then fine. If someone doesn't want to marry another of the same gender, then he/she doesn't have to.

In a world with television shows like Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire and The Bachelor, same-sex marriage doesn't really seem that controversial anymore... almost old-fashioned!

Pasi nice story, but Jordan,I cant judge on this issue, but for me its rather anti-human to legalise such unions, cos the arrangement does not positively encourage child bearing and consequently,we would only have test tube and grown babies.

Its my opinion alright.,

if two loving grown-ups want to formalize their partnership

Formalizing the partnership is already allowed here in Finland and Sweden, so this is an issue about semantics.

You sure cannot blame all Christian priests being narrow minded.

good stuff:

Pasi, thank you (and supporters) of gay marriage.  It is vital to the well-being of  this community of people, who do adopt and who do have loving families, to afford them the same protections, across the board, as are afforded to heterosexual unions.  Denying them these protections serves no useful purpose and, in my opinion, adds up to oppression.  Thanks again!
