Homeless Man Breaks into Abandoned Bar, Reopens to the Public
Travis Lloyd Kevie Becomes Bar Owner for Three Days
Travis Lloyd Kevie, a transient who lives in Penryn, California, broke into the Valencia Club, a closed-down bar. This was not a burglary, though: Kevie reopened the bar, and began serving customers.
Starting with a six-pack from a local liquor store, Kevie used the proceeds from initial sales to finance further product buys. For one weekend, Travis Lloyd Kevie was a bar owner, even though he had no liquor license or property lease.
Kevie had found out about the property because he was hired as day labor to help clean it out when the original owner abandoned the property.
The grand reopening of the Valencia Club was covered by a local paper, and that drew law enforcement attention.
His ruse was exposed when Placer County Detective Jim Hudson recognized Kevie's picture in a July 19th article published in the Auburn Journal about the reopening of the Valencia Club.
He kept the bar open through the weekend, serving about 30 customers a day, deputies said.
Kevie was arrested on suspicion of burglary and selling alcohol without a license, deputies said.
A large amount of alcohol and cash was confiscated at the scene, the release states.
