This little "fighting" rooster took a look at Minnie's size and immediately retreated up the roost. The other chickens in this room similarly were giving her a wide berth. (The laying room, on the other hand, had hens twice her size, and roosters that might consider Minnie a tasty little morsel.)
Chickens have a pecking order that governs who gets first crack at food, treats, sleeping spaces, and so on. Introducing a new bird causes the order to shift. I wonder where she'll wind up in the order here.
(We did, by the way, order three more chicks, of breeds that are supposedly quieter and less aggressive. They should get here later this month via mail-order.)
