NP Rank:
It's art, not porn, says nude child model Olympia Nelson
Robert Nelson aware of sexual potential in his daughter's picture. His essay which features on the website of her wife talks about fear of a child's latent sexuality.

THE father of the naked girl depicted on the cover of Art Monthly magazine has written of the "diabolically sexual" potential in child images.
Robert Nelson, art critic with The Age, has responded angrily to criticism of the nude pictures of his six-year-old daughter Olympia in the magazine's most recent issue, which is being investigated by the Australian Classification Board and may be pulled from the shelves.
But, as revealed by Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt in his blog this morning, Mr Nelson has previously written of the specific sexuality of such pictures, arguing that "the sensuality of children is integral to parental fondness".
THE decision by Art Monthly Australia to put the photograph of a nude six-year-old girl on the cover of its July magazine is barefaced abuse of an innocent child. It is overt political exploitation of a naked child by a group of adults done solely for their own political gratification.
Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson summed it up neatly when he said the editor, Maurice O'Riordan, was sending a "two-fingered salute to the rest of society".
Nothing artistic about their offensive gesture. It's politics, pure and simple. And that's why it's distasteful and deserves censure.
Not censorship, you understand. This is not pornography of the kind that should attract the wallopers. Tell the child abuse lobbyists who fulminate about such imagery as feeding pedophilia to settle down.
THE young girl whose naked photo appeared on the cover of an arts magazine has defended the picture, saying she is proud of it.
Art Monthly Australia magazine sparked fresh outrage over naked images of children by publishing an image of a six-year-old Olympia Nelson - who is now aged 11 - on its July cover and two shots inside.
The magazine's editors said the images were chosen as a protest against the recent furore over similar pictures by artist Bill Henson.
Olympia Nelson says she is "really offended" by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's criticisms of the photo.
The 2003 image of six-year-old Olympia Nelson, taken by her mother Polixeni Papapetrou, has been published by Art Monthly Australia magazine in protest against the recent furore over Bill Henson's photographs of a naked 13-year-old girl.
Olympia, now aged 11, does not believe the photograph of her amounts to abuse and is upset with Mr Rudd, who said yesterday he "can't stand" the shot.
A TERRITORY editor has come under fire for publishing a photo of a naked six-year-old girl on the cover of a taxpayer-funded national magazine.
The July edition of Art Monthly Australia included several provocative photos of children posing naked in adult jewellery as well as naked teen girls.
The magazine's editor, Territorian Maurice O'Riordan, said he published the photo to protest against the recent furore over photos of children by renowned artist Bill Henson.

Silly for anyone to construe this as porn, most child molesters and pedophiles prefer the blacked out portions of this photo to be removed. Regardless of what this now 11 year old says, it is the perception of others that matters, it certainly looks like Porn to me, naked children for mass publication is never art. No matter what the artsy fartsy set claim.

Parents, burn all your photos of the kids in the tub. Destroy all images of "bearskin rug" photos. Delete all photos of females from birth on who are topless. Do not . . . repeat . . . do NOT . . . grab a camera when your innocent darling is doing anything and is not fully clothed.
From now on, all diaper advertisements must show the child fully clothed. If you are selling baby shampoo, that kid better be clothed if you show it being used. Let's take another look at that international symbol for changing stations.
In the meantime, someone get a hammer to all those cupids, nymphs, garden fountains and outdoor sculpture.
Finally, some PLEASE put a curtain around that peeing boy statue in Belgium.
Child pornography is a serious matter. However, how much art must be trashed to get rid of pictures of nude children?
Perhaps the morals police need a look at everyone's scrapbooks and hard drives.
I remember an old television series called "JJ and the Governor" where the governor was taken on a moral crusade ride. His daughter (JJ) gave him the results of an "investigation" into books which could be deemed to be immoral. Among the culprits was a book about driving a tank. It seems the committee thought the tank commander steering the driver by tapping his foot on the driver's shoulder to indicate direction amounted to foot fetish.

Pictures of you own kids for home memories, certainly pales in comparison of photos made public as one handed publications for the Raincoat set, one wonders if the mailing list of subscribers to this mag have any priors as sex offenders I wonder~ I bet if a background investigation on the subscribers was performed you would be surprised. Oh and regardless this child is in makeup, now tell me how many parents have naked photos of their own children in makeup, as this guy states is tastefully done?

I believe we are going a bit overboard with the child pornography issue. There is nothing there to speak of. My mom has plenty of photos of us kids naked when we were in the pool or sprinklers or like at the age of 5 and under. Get off on it if you want, but they are in B&W(or have you forgotten those days?)so I doubt it very much. Getting caught with the household pet dog pulling the pants down, or shitting in the same, or falling in an ants nest , makes for a one time shot. Its called "life's moments". What is evil about that?
The evil is in the adults that think that way.
Adults are to blame for everything so poke all their eyes out once they come of age. (I am guessing you are not gonna go that route)
Pedophiles are just afraid of "big people" so in that sense, their mindset is juvenile or infantile.
We are trying to protect everybody from everybody. That means allowing the "sick ones- who commit murder, sexual offences and the like" to remain alive as well : instead of gleaning the chaff from the wheat. Reducing that load would reduce the infractions.
