Earlier this year a not so encouraging statistic was released. The Boston police were on the hook for not getting the cases solved.

BOSTON (WBZ) ― In the city of Boston, six out of 10 murderers will get away with it.

Recent numbers show Boston has about the worst record for unsolved murders of any city its size.

Police say they need the community to stand up and help solve the killings by working with officers.

Some victims' families say it's because the police aren't working hard enough.

But something very encouraging and very much the opposite has been released today.

Suspect charged in quarter-century old Boston 'cold case' murder
An Atlanta man has been arrested in the 1984 rape and murder of an 18-year-old Roxbury woman after the Boston police cold case squad found DNA evidence collected from the suspect in 2004, authorities said Tuesday. Sultan Omar Chezulu, 60, was arrested Tuesday in Georgia and charged with murder in the beating and strangulation of Yolanda Hernandez.

There is no statute of limitation on murder and thankfully the Boston police have a cold case process. Are they working harder? Did they implement some new processes? It is hard to tell.

The lovely young girl, Yolanda Hernandez, had her life tragically and violently taken from her at 18 years old on Dec. 28th 1984 and a month shy of 24 years later her  killer (now 60 years old) is identified living in another part of the country under another name.

Robert L. Scott left Massachusetts after serving time for a 2004 armed robbery but not before leaving a DNA sample, as required by a new law. Then he moved on (and never looked back), to a new state and a new identity. However, as a result of that DNA, and continued cold case follow up by the Boston police, Sultan Omar Chezulu was captured in Georgia and brought back to Massachusetts to stand trial for the murder he committed so long ago.

If only they all turned out this way, what a wonderful world it would be.
