The John Titor hoax is an old story largely known on the Internet: alleged “time traveler” posts crap on the ‘Net, generates a lot of talk among us conspiracy theories lovers ;) and at some point ends up even discussed in kitschy Italian tv program “Voyager”, known for its cleverly staged and enormously enjoyable disinformation features.
I would like to add my 2 cents here and leave speculations to the readers.

Hoaxers annoy me greatly (to put it politely). They do this out of a superiority complex. Just to get one over on everybody. To have a lonely, twisted laugh at the incredulous masses thus confirming their delusion that they are somehow above everyone else. It's an act of twisted malice, not roguish good humour. A time waster to all concerned, diverting effort from real, meaningful and productive research towards attention of their own egotistical creation. I think of it as one last electronic scream before they die in anonymity - a stab at the status they feel they're entitled to but aren't capable of achieving in real life. How do I know? Since hoaxers are too cowardly to come forth and explain themselves, my explanation stands as the only testimony. Fin.
