Judge orders woman to get rid of 50 cats

THE HAGUE: A woman who shares her house in the Netherlands with five dozen cats has been ordered by a judge to get rid of 50 of them, the ANP news agency reported yesterday.

The woman has been using her front and back yards and all of the rooms of her house in the town of Sint Annaparochie to shelter stray cars, it said.

Neighbors complained and the woman was fined by municipal authorities-promting her to approach a judge for relief. But the court agreed that 60 cats were to many and gave the woman until November 1 to get rid of the majority of her feline companions. She may keep 10.

Domestic Cat (Felis catus), is a small feline carnivore that has been domesticated for several millennia. The cat  was originated from an ancestral wild species. Felis Silvestris, the European, and African Wild Cats.

The cats were first domesticated by Ancient Egyptians in 4000 BC, to keep mice and rats away from the grain stores. They regarded cats as embodiments of the goddess Bast, also known as Bastet or Thet; the penalty for killing a cat was death, and when a cat died it was sometimes mummified in the same way as a human.

The term cat most commonly means a domestic cat, although it can also be used to refer to the other members of the feline family. For example lions, tigers, jaguars, or as the big cats.

Awww, where are all the other cats going to go?

danesller0127

Hi, there! amyjudd' the court give the woman a chance to decide until Nov.1...it's strange for me too... i'm thinking also, on what happens to the cats, if the woman decide to get rid to the other fifty, maybe the woman decided to lets the cat go into the streets, or the authorities have a place for the cats to live in? Thanks again...

I really think it's absoloutly nothing to do with the judge unless she is harming them... but she's helping them.

Parhaps someone could give me contact details of the lady (esthermartin@btinternet.com), or...    tell her that if she registers as a cat charity or a shelter, she is then likely to be able to keep the cats. Equally, if she registers them with a local cat protection company/charity/etc. she could be their fosterer. ....   Many don't get re-homed, and are left with the foster carers indefinatly.

Please could someone let her know!???

Esther.

danesller0127

I'm afraid not! i think, the poor lady, she's happy only on nursing and caring the cats...and now she's on having a problem, from his neighbors, she has no place for the cats to live in... thanks again... Esther' I'm happy for your personal feelings...

Junglelure

Sounds like the woman's heart was bigger than her home... and certainly bigger than her neighbor's heart!

danesller0127

Absolutely! Hi there, Junglelure...You've got me an awesome pictures of Bengal tigers' before, and now you've have again, a very cute photos of domestic cats...        thanks a lot!!!

ricia ruane

I'd be so upset to give them up.  I look after the neighborhood outside cats....I put out twice daily feedings, fix "owies" and love them.  It started when a neighbors grandchild couldn't take the cat, he'd gotten her one summer, to her own home.  So he left it outside...and I can't ignore something like that.  i usually have a dozen or a few more for a meal....but only 3 are really "mine."  I have 3 indoor Persian cats...2 are from Rescue groups....I'm just a big cat and animal lover.

Which Ghandi was it that said something about being able to judge the quality of a people by the way it treats it's pets??  I'd love to fine that quote and make a sign of it for my "feeding" area for the cats.

danesller0127

Hi there! ricia ruane' you've a very big heart... in my understanding, cats, is the most celebrated pet in the world, second is dogs, but i prefer cat for my own...Persian cats' wow!!! you've got a lovely cats, i hope i can have also a Persian... thanks a lot for your personal feelings...

leahcsiszar

I am also wondering where the cats will go...? Is this a death sentence..?  :(

danesller0127

Don't worry guys! did you know that cats is a skilled predator, the can hunt for food, outside or in the streets, or in the woods. So they can survive without his master...

Diana Nevermind

I hope if she can't keep them that they all go to good homes.  :)   Shadow came to us as a stray when he was only aprox 5 weeks old, very thin, flea infested and he also had tics.  That was 1 yr ago and he has been thanking us ever since.  Good Luck!!!   :))

danesller0127

Actually! Diana' you've a very lovely cat i like him and you're very lucky to have him...and thanks for your personal feelings, about the lady and his cats...i hope she can manage in four months... come again!!!

Nikkita

This is Tiger.
We inherited Tiger when one of relatives passed away and we didn't want to take him to the shelter. We were worried that our two cats would not accept him and he wouldn't get along with them since he's not used to living with other catsand he's been declawed and our two cats are not. But, so far it's been OK.
He's very sweet and lovee to be picked up. He enjoys playing with our other male cat.

danesller0127

Oh. thanks God!, Nikkita' that you're the one who inherited him...i think 'Tiger' is a very energetic and a handsome cat, that's why the two other cats liked him.  i liked him, also... thank you!!! for sharing...

MysticRDS

4 months is not a lot of time to re-home 50 cats. Her care of the cats has kept them out of the shelters which are already over run. I agree with Esther she needs to see what she can do to keep them.

This is "Simon & Peanut" Simon the BIG DSH was rescued from a shelter, just two days before he was supposed to be euthanized.

danesller0127

I think so' 4 months is not a lot of tme to re-home the other 50, i hope that somebody sheltered the cats, yeah!!! i'm thank for Esther, for her personal feelings about the cats, i hope that somebody give the address of the poor lady with a five-dozen cats.

Oh' by the way, mysticRDS' you've and awesome cats!!! 'Simon & Peanut', thanks for sharing... come again....

Sandra Parshall

This sort of situation is difficult to deal with because it arises from good intentions -- a love of animals and a desire to help strays -- but may not result in healthy living conditions for the animals. I don't know what the conditions were at this woman's house. I hope the cats were well cared for, and I hope that "get rid of" doesn't mean killing 50 of them.

danesller0127

Hi, there! Sandra' Thank you for your personal feelings about the cats...i think the lady with a five dozen cat, misunderstood by his neighbors...in my understanding the poor lady, has a very big heart... i have no idea, what will happen later...i hope she can manage before the deadline... thanks again!!! danesller
