Las Vegas Chimp Escape: Where Did the Chimps Come From?
2 Chimpanzees Escape, Hit Vegas
Las Vegas residents who live near the intersection of West Ann Road and Jones Boulevard were warned to stay in their homes, or risk a chimp attack. Police responded to a call that two chimpanzees were on the loose in the area on July 12, 2012.
8 News Now had live helicopter footage of the Las Vegas chimp-chase.
Where Did the Chimps Come From?
The police say that the two chimps escaped: that much is self-evident, as chimpanzees are not native to Nevada. However, where did the chimps escape from? Did the chimps escape from a zoo or shelter, or from a private home?
[Update: it looks like the two chimps escaped from a private owner's backyard.]
One of the chimps was shot by a police officer after a chase, which included the chimp attacking a police car. The other chimp was tranquilized. It's still not clear exactly where the chimps escaped from. Just to clarify, do we know for sure that there are only two escaped chimps?
