Latham Man Cave Website and Stilettos of Latham Denied Zoning
Latham Man Cave is a website for a new barbershop called Stilettos of Latham where "a man can be a man" that is awaiting zoning approval in Colonie New York. However, the town officials have denied the zoning approval for a shop with haircuts and 'rubdowns' because one of the people involved is about to be sentenced for an involvement in prostitution.
The man in question, Joseph Speranza is due to be sentenced on Monday, and he pleaded guilty last December 10th to one count of promoting prostitution in the third degree. It's unclear what his role in the business is, but his involvement has stopped the final permit going through.
It was on January 21, 2009 that Speranza attempted to arrange sex between an undercover police officer and an 18-year-old female; Speranza took $300 from the police officer.
In interviews with the Times Union, Speranza at first said he was a silent partner in Stilettos, but when questioned about his plea, he insisted he had no ownership role.
Town Attorney Michael Magguilli said Speranza signed the original request for zoning approval of the shop as an owner, but he did not sign a new request submitted Thursday.
In a zoning meeting earlier this week, Speranza did portray himself as a 50 percent owner according to the police chief.
"I don't know what's true or what's not," Magguilli said. "It does give the town some concern that a person convicted of promoting prostitution wants to open this type of operation."
Wendy Milavec, who is also owner of Stilettos of Latham, says she has hired single mothers and is paying them $10 to $15 for each haircut they do.
"I don't think it's fair. We are being discriminated against," Milavec said. "I'm a single mom, trying to make a living. As a single mom, you're not going to see me doing anything illegal. I have custody of two children."
Speranza has said that the outfits the staff would wear would be no worse than those seen on Facebook or in high schools.

Mr. Speranza and Ms. Milavec are liars. I was actually one of the girls he interviewed (found a better job and realized I would be ashamed of myself if I actually worked there). He's the owner and Wendy is his "partner". She's only his "partner" because of the scandal he's going through with the prostitution charges. And plus they're dating. They weren't just hiring single mothers, they were hiring anyone that would look great in lingerie. The outfits were slim to nothing. The only requirement was that their privates, ass, and nipples weren't showing. He is disgusting, rude, unprofessional, a creep, and a few other things I don't find the need to mention. Long story short, the police and media are correct with their alligations against Mr. Speranza.
