When Jean Burgess's pals told her it was high time she let her hair down to celebrate her 70th birthday, she did just that - all FIVE FEET and six inches of it.

As the pretty pensioner hasn't had her locks lopped for more than 50 YEARS.

They haven't seen scissors since 1953 when she was snapped beside the Lily of the Valley her father was helping to grow especially for the Queen's coronation.

As she hated the picture so much she vowed never cut it again.

And she has stuck to her word despite her 75-inch tresses taking a hair-raising two-and-a-half hours to comb, 45 minutes to wash and 24 hours to drip dry.

Divorced Jean, from Sevenoaks in Kent, who has five children Sarah, 45, Tony, 44, Clare, 42, Stephen, 39 and Paul, 31, said: 'I hated those pictures of me when I was 15 so much.
