A Lancashire man described by neighbours as "very private" and "reclusive" has been found dead in his bed.  He had not been seen for two years.

The body of a man found in a bed at his Lancashire home is believed to have lain undiscovered for more than two years, police have said.

Brian Dean, 70, was found at the terraced house in Huncoat, near Accrington, by police officers when they broke the door down.

A pile of unopened post dating back two years was found behind the door.

Tests are being carried out to determine a cause of death and officers are also trying to trace relatives.

Neighbours said Mr Dean was rarely seen and was a private person.

Alarms were not raised with official authorities because bills were still being paid by direct debit from Mr Dean's bank account.

Christina 123, I like this story. It's good stuff.

No wonder the poor gentleman was 'quiet and reclusive,' - he was dead !!

This story illustrates one other thing as well : the benefits of automatic bill-pay - even after you're dead they can still get your payments on time ...

It just keeps getting better and better !

Thanks GhOs7 and Emilio!  It is frightening how many very lonely old folk there are out there, and many ARE very private and do not want people fussing around them.

Christina, my apologies!

You are right. Our culture has no time for the old - in general they don't have much to spend, so nobody cares.

In cases where they may have some money and happen to become infirm, then again and again I have witnessed their own families, sons and daughters, descend upon them like packs of wolves, all for the good of mom or dad - so they say, but they're really just after the money, which is the case right now conerning someone very close to home in my own family.

Significant issue for our attention ...
