A man who expects to die from cancer caused by inhaling asbestos is challenging a court order that will require his body to undergo an autopsy.

Seventy-one-year-old James Ross does not want an autopsy an believes that it shouldn't be a condition of his estate being paid a settlement. Ross' lawyer Matthew Bergman argues that mandatory autopsies, which have been part of most legal settlements regarding exposure to asbestos, allows for "religious or ethical considerations", but should be expanded to allow others to refuse being examined after they die.

"Mr. Ross could have said the autopsy violated his religion but he didn't because that isn't true. This is not religious, this is a matter of personal moral belief,'' Bergman said. "It is disturbing for a court to inquire about his religious beliefs before deciding if he can have a waiver."

Jon, you come up with the most interesting news!  The man is spending his last few months of life protecting his dying body from autopsy.  Imagine that.  Humph!

It is amazing how much we are violated, and yet we still insist that we are free!
