NP Rank:
March 27 is Apparently National Joe Day
National Joe Day, yes, it is a holiday, is celebrated annually on March 27.
So here's the deal, National Joe Day is a holiday for all those people who hate their name and wish they could change it or simply want to be a different person for one day. The idea is that the name Joe is universal, ambiguous, and "becasuse everyone likes the name" and therefore, one day out of the year we all have the liberty to become "Joe" (or Josephine for those of the XX chromosomal variety).
The origin behind the holiday is unknown but most likely the founder was someone with a bizarre name, so most likely a Hollywood celebrity's child.
Instructions for National Joe day are pretty straightforward:
Wake up on March 27 and introduce yourself to everyone as Joe. If you are a girl, Joe is short for your old name. If you are a boy, Joe is short for your old name as well. You are a new person. You are no longer strapped down to that name you have been carrying around all these years. Throw off the old name and become Joe for a day.
With namesakes including Joe DiMaggio, Joeseph Lieberman, Joe Pesci, and even Joe Jonas, who wouldn't want to be a Joe?
