Catcher in the Rye Killer Mark Chapman tried to sell a signed John Lennon record so that he could cash in on his notoreity.  Ironically, Chapman is being held at Attica State - also the title of one of Lennon's famous protest songs on his live double albumn Sometime in New York City.

John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman wanted to cash in on his notoriety by selling an album Lennon signed for him hours before he shot him dead, it has emerged.

In a never-seen-before letter posted from New York's Attica Correctional Facility, where he is currently in solitary confinement, Chapman asks a memorabilia specialist from New Jersey how much the signed Lennon album - Double Fantasy - would be worth.

In the letter written five years after the killing, Chapman tells matter-of-factly how he shot Lennon dead on December 8, 1980, but how earlier the same day he had successful asked him to sign the Lennon and Yoko Ono record, released just days earlier.
