A vigorous debate is shaping up on internet astronomy sites and talk groups. Is it possible for a meteorite to start a fire in a building?

From the 1908 Siberian meteorite explosion that devastated 20 miles to the yearly Geminid meteor showers, the sky is alive with things that it's hurling at us these days. The New Zealand story comes after the amazing Colorado fireball and  10-ton Canadian meteor.

[q url="http://www.examiner.com/x-504-Space-News-Examiner~y2008m12d14-Meteorite-destroys-NZ-warehouse-in-fire-witnesses-say"] A warehouse in Auckland, New Zealand was destroyed by fire after what witnesses claim was a direct meteorite hit. /q]

I suppose it is possible. Never rule any thing out yet keep staying skeptical as well.

Paschel, I will be interested to see what the Fire Service investigation reveals, when they release it.
