Michael Plank Arrested with 15 Lizards Strapped to Chest
Michael Plank, from Lomita, CA, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with 15 live lizards strapped to his chest. Micahel Plank did not have an import license for the geckos, skinks, and monitor lizards hidden in a money belt, which he had smuggled in from Australia, which strictly controls the animals and plants that enter or leave its ecosystem. These lizards slipped under the radar, though.
This reminds me of Dong Song, who hid 13 songbirds in this trousers; he also got caught. The takeaway lesson here is that hiding live animals under your clothes attracts airport security attention.
Plank, who was returning from Australia, has been released on $10,000 bond.
Authorities say the lizards' value totals more than $8,500.
I'm not sure what will happen to the lizards, though: hopefully they'll be repatriated.
