Apparently, a monkey is on the loose in the Novato neighborhood of Hamilton. As monkeys of any kind are not native to Marin County, it's a safe presumption that the monkey, described by my parents' neighbors as "the size of a two-liter bottle", is an escaped pet. The monkey was spotted by a school bus driver on the morning of Tuesday, December 8, and again by a little girl later that evening. From there, the news spread throughout the neighborhood.

"He was adamant it was a monkey," said Harrington, noting the only decription of the animal was that it had a tail about a foot-and-a-half long.

If you spot a monkey in Novato, don't try to bring it into your house, but instead ring the Marin Humane Society on 415-883-4621. As winter closes in on Northern California, the monkey is at risk of hypothermia.
