In addition to being Cyber Monday, December 1 is also National Bloody Mary Day, the birthday of the cocktail made with vodka, tomato juice, and a hint of Tabasco sauce. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the drink's creation.

To celebrate the occasion, the T.G.I. Friday's restaurant located in Times Square will sell Bloody Marys at 1933 prices: 99 cents. There will also be a special toast to the Bloody Mary in Times Square this morning and several other New York bars will hand out free Blood Marys.

The drink was created in the 1920s by French bartender Fernand Petiot. Years later, Petiot brought the drink with him when he migrated to the US to work at New York's St. Regis Hotel. At that time, the cocktail was called the Red Snapper, but was changed to Bloody Mary, reportedly in honor of actress Mary Pickford, who had another drink made of rum, Grenadine and Maraschino named after her.

It should be illegal not to have a bloody mary at brunch.

We always start Thanksgiving with some Bloody Marys with our friends. A little bit of pumpkin bread and a parade or dog show are fine complements.

This is the best Bloody Mary in Southern California! You can find it at T's Cafe in Solana Beach. They even sell jugs of the mix to take home with you. What a wonderful way to start your day after a long night.

I'm a Bloody Mary Fashionista (for lack of a better word).  The best one I've ever had was at Timberline Lodge, 1/2 way up Mt. Hood.

Best Bloody Mary I ever had was at a bar in Morro Bay, CA called Legends. The photo I posted is from the Riptide in San Francisco. Always ask for extra olives!

Not a fan of bloody Marys, but for this occasion I'll make an exception

Nothing like a Bloody Mary to start off Thanksgiving morning...it's a long running tradition in our household! Cheers!
