A newborn baby slipped out of the toilet of a moving train and managed to survive the fall unscathed. The mother of the newborn baby also jumped out of the moving train in a bid to save her child and also came out of the ordeal safe and sound.
It all began when 32-yeard old Rinku Debi Roy and her husband Bhola (34) boarded the S-2 compartment of the Up Tata-Chhapra Express from Tatanagar alongwith their two-year old daughter, Muskaan. Rinku was at the end of her pregnancy and Bhola wanted to get her admitted to a hospital in Sapur near Chhapra. When the train neared Gamariah station around 10:30 pm, Rinku went to the train toilet and while she was relieving herself, her baby slipped from her birth canal and fell out of the train through the filthy discharge chute and onto the tracks.
Rinku, in panic, jumped out of the moving train to save her baby. The other passengers who saw her jump, immediately pulled the chain mistaking it to be a suicide attempt. Meanwhile Bhola who was completely unaware of what was happening, only found out about it after the train stopped about a kilometer away from the station.
Fearing the worst, Bhola and the other passengers launched a massive search. They found Rinku sitting in the dark with the baby clutched tight in her arms, completely shaken but safe and unhurt. They were immediately taken to the nest station, Purulia, at 12:25 am where a medical team awaited them. From there, they were sent to the Deben Mahato Hospital where doctors were shocked and amazed to see both the mother and child perfectly fine.
This miraculous escape of mother and child is, according to the hospital and railway staff, one of the strangest and incredible cases they have ever seen. Both mother and child were kept in observation for 24-hours and then later discharged. As for Bhola, he can hardly believe what happened. “I can only thank God for keeping my family intact, with a bonus.” , he said.
