Newspaper claims suspect transformed into a goat
I just wonder if the
police read the goat
his legal rights, especially
the right not to speak?
One of Nigeria's biggest daily newspapers reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. In a front-page article on Friday, the Vanguard newspaper said that two men tried to steal a Mazda car two days earlier in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.
The paper quoted police spokesman Tunde Mohammed as saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended.
The newspaper reported that police paraded the goat before journalists, and published a picture of the animal.
Police in the state couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria, particularly in far-flung rural areas.
I checked further and found
the original story in Lagos,
Nigeria, with a picture of the criminal.
Police parade goat as robbery suspect ![]()
Written by Demola Akinyemi Friday, 23 January 2009 *For attempting to ‘steal’ a Mazda car
It was a shocking sight yesterday as men of the Kwara State Police Command paraded a goat as an armed robbery suspect.
The goat "robbery suspect"The goat "suspect" is being detained over an alleged attempt to snatch a Mazda car. The mysterious goat, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tunde Mohammed, while briefing bewildered journalists at the Force headquarters, is an armed robber who attempted to snatch the said car, Wednesday night, and later transformed into the goat in a bid to escape arrest.
He explained that men of a vigilance group in Anifowose Ipata/Oloje areas of the state capital had chased two armed robbery suspects who wanted to demobilise the Mazda car with the intention of stealing it, and
"while one of them escaped, the other was about to be apprehended by the team when he turned his back on the wall and turned to this goat. They quickly grabbed the goat and here it is.’’ Mohammed said.
The police spokesman said the goat "armed robbery suspect" will not be left off the hook until investigations into the case are concluded.
It seems there may be legal
precedent for this. A bear was
convicted of theft and property
damage.
Bear Convicted
Reuters News reported last week that a court in Bitola, Macedonia, has convicted a bear of theft and property damage in a case brought by a beekeeper.
Rumors of violent protests against the ruling in Jellystone Park could not be immediately confirmed.

I would not take this lightly and respect the people believe, just like some in the west Believe in a fictive God they believe in Spirits ad magic. How many time have I read in the respected western News paper that an angel was seen, or miracle did happen? Same idea same sort of believe and should be respected.

You have a point but it is a different issue. There is much that supports God's existence.
I think the humor comes from the arrest of the goat.
I disagee with magic but I can respect anyone who believes it, sincerely.

What's a goat's average lifespan? 8 years could well be a life sentence.

This is funny. A thief turns into a goat when trapped. It's hard to believe a person being able to change into an animal. I would need actual proof before saying something like this can happen. Still entertaining though.

I agree with your comment. It true it would be the story of the year.
