The man who jumped off Niagara Falls yesterday has been identified as a 30 year old Canadian man, who was trying to commit suicide.

He went into the water and was swept over the edge without any resistance, but hit the bottom of the Horseshoe Falls and survived. He is expected to recover.

Police are not releasing his name or discussing his reasons for jumping into the Niagara River.

He is only the third person known to have survived going over Niagara Falls without protection. The last was Kirk Jones in 2003.
