No Repeat Customers...Blowfish Testicles Poison 7 in Japan
They might survive their meal but I doubt that the unlucky few mentioned in Blowfish testicles poison seven in Japanese restaurant (Guardian, January 27) will be repeat customers of the Tsuruoka establishment.
I did learn that in order to serve this 'delicacy' known as Fugu to Japanese you need a fugu licence.
The owner of the Tsuruoka eaterie did not have one.
While asking if Fugu is the deadliest fish Setsuko Yoshizuka teaches us that "in western Japan, fugu is called "fuku," which means to blow or happiness" and also that "the kanji (Chinese characters) used to write fugu indicates river pig." ...

Thank goodness that there were no testicles in the fugu sashimi that we ate in Shibuya, Tokyo! We ate at a restaurant that served nothing but fugu -- grilled, fried, raw and in soup.

I ate some cheap fugu the other week.. Deep fried chunks like chicken nuggets. Dodged that bullet! I hear the poisoning is extremely painful! Sheesh, I'm already hungry for some more....

One of these days I'm going to have Fugu at Urasawa.

Although we had multiple courses of fugu, each prepared differently, they were all incredibly bland. Coincidentally, the testicles had the most flavour.

Okay, if your joy in life is sucking down a fishes "Nutsack", then perhaps you're not too high on the evolutionary ladder to begin with!

I disagree, especially if your trying to gobble em and the animal is still attached to them and alive!

This is the sign above the Tentake restaurant next to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan. They specialize in fugu and offer it prepared many different ways.
