Nudists Fight For Their Right To Vote Naked

A nudist resort in Florida is hoping to set up a clothing-optional polling booth for Tuesday's US election. Residents of Caliente Resorts, the largest nudist colony in the US, are hoping to create a polling place where residents can vote in the buff if they so choose. More than 350 potential voters live at the nudist resort as well as 200 employees. Currently, residents have to vote in a neighboring subdivision that is not clothing optional.

Resort administrators said they discussed the prospect with Brian Corley, Pasco County's supervisor of elections, but the official said he does not plan to "even consider" opening additional polling places until after the scheduled 2010 redistricting.

Jennifer Davis, a spokeswoman for the Florida Secretary of State's Office, said a nude polling place would not violate any state laws.

"That would be up to the local supervisor," she said.

One commissioner suggests that if nudists prefer voting with no clothes, they can vote absentee.  But nudists claim voting and their lifestyle share one thing.

"It's about freedom," Fox insisted.  "People take their civic duty seriously and in many cases [nudism] is a very serious part of their lifestyle."

Wouldn't that take too long to get undressed, vote, and then get dressed again? I don't think I could be bothered!

Vote NAKED., originally uploaded by SaylaMarz.

“I Voted!!

All voting is by mail here. Which means that I can take the time to research all of the ballot measures, even if I’m not expecting them. And I can vote at my convenience.

But most important of all?

I get to vote Naked!”
