The foreign nurse who had mistakenly applied Altico glue to a patient’s back in Hulhumale’ Hospital has been suspended.
Although the incident had occurred last Sunday night, the nurse had been suspended on Friday, an official from the Hospital said.
“The Department of Medical Services ordered her to remain at home,” an official from the Hospital said. “They did not specify when she should come back to work. So she doesn’t come for work anymore.”
A senior official from the Hulhumale’ Hospital had admitted that the incident had been caused by the carelessness on the part of the nurse.
The Department of Medical Service said that further steps against the nurse would be taken, if necessary, after discussing the matter with the senior committee.
The 48-year-old female patient involved in the case had been admitted at the Hospital for treatment after she complained of numbness and pain on her back. The patient’s family said that she had suffered further injuries to the skin of her back due to the incident.
The family also said that the Altico glue bottle had most likely been left on the patient’s table by a well-wisher who had visited the patient.
