Water Fun with Knut!

When I first saw a video of Knut, I thought he was the cutest thing I had ever seen, and desperately wanted to get a polar bear cub for myself. After reading the story below, I am not so sure... after all, where would I fit a 308 pound bear in my house? And he might eat my cat come to think of it.

But check out Knut's new movie!

A year ago, he was a cute and cuddly ball of white fur who captured the hearts of millions worldwide.

But Knut the polar bear has grown up fast - as this startled young visitor to Berlin Zoo discovered.

Knut now weighs 22 stone and has six-inch claws and a fearsome set of fangs to match.

And he seemed to be particularly keen to test them on the three-year-old boy lying on the ground next to his enclosure.

Fortunately for the youngster, six inches of glass capable of withstanding a mortar attack separated him from the jaws of the world's most famous captive bear.

Knut was rejected by his mother at birth in December 2006.

Some animal rights activists said it would be better for him to die than to be weaned by mankind.

The zoo directors decided to let him live, however, and he went on to become a major attraction, pulling in £5million in revenue in a year.

But his days of being picked up and cuddled are long gone.

He is, after all, a wild animal and now not even the keeper who raised him by hand dares to get close.

I saw and photographed this well mannered Polar Bear named Knut. He has a lot of fans that visits him everyday. He is currently staying in Berlin Zoo.

I was visiting Berlin Zoo to see the baby Knut. He was taking a nap and didn't care about the visitors at all. Very cute little bear.

When I saw Knut he was very vocal. It almost appeared as if he was giving us a speech, and he was loving his audience.

When I took this photo in May 2007 crowds of people were lining up and waiting in the rain just to catch a glimpse of him. He has grown up since then and in a positive way, it might give people an understanding of polar bears that is closer to reality.

Very relaxed with the crowds, he was happy to sit in full view whilst playing. My daughters didn't think he was any more special than any of the other bears in the enclosure though.

amyjudd, thanks for reporting on Knut, a very interesting feature.  Polar bears are amazing animals.  It is remarkable how they look so cute and cuddly at first, and how they turn out.  I agree with you, he would be too big for a house.

Too bad they had to separate Knut from the other Polar Bears. He looked very lonely following his reflection in the glass. Hopefully they'll take him back when he's older.

I just returned from a trip to the Berlin zoo, and Knut was still the star! He entertained a huge crowd by playing with a large blanket.  He is still a cute performer, and we all laughed and cheered as he enjoyed entertaining us with his antics.
